Must watch: Part 1

Hey you all! I’m very excited about my new “Must watch” series of blog articles featuring short videos that go deeper into the different aspects of my previous posts. They will also present cool startups and entrepreneurs or represent great business opportunities.

I like to pick videos that are incredibly useful and informative as well as entertaining and truly inspiring. These are some of my current favorites and many of them I show to my students in class. I hope you like them!

1. Conference call (funny)

As the global outbreak of the coronavirus has forced people to work from home, communication tools such as Zoom, Teams, Skype, Meet and others have become a part of our everyday life. This video is amazingly accurate and hilarious showing what conference calls are really like.

2. What is entrepreneurship?

In this video, Guy Kawasaki, a Silicon Valley venture capitalist, shares his thoughts about what entrepreneurship is really about and how entrepreneurs should approach new business development. He says pretty clearly that it is not about making money but making meaning. In other words, entrepreneurs should aim to make the world a better place.

3. Branding

This video is mainly about how Nike has built a brand without almost ever advertising its products but a lifestyle by celebrating athletes. The video makes references to different ways of persuasion (how to make people buy from you) that I recently wrote about (click here to read).

4. Peer pressure

I absolutely love these old experiments. This one is about herd mentality, or consensus, and it shows how people are affected by others’ opinions. Again, this video relates to the psychology behind marketing and sales. Watch to see how easy it is to change people’s mind!

5. Lilium air taxi

Lilium, a Munich-based startup, has built a 5-seater jet with 36 all-electric engines that is able to take off and land vertically. With a range of 300km it connects cities with cities and cities with suburban areas, and it does it with style! The company plans for a commercial launch in 2025 as an Uber-style taxi service provider. One of my favorite startups from TUM!
